Paletas Patterns:
Build your own Popsicles

Lesson Topic and Description:
Students will explore how patterns are all around and part of their everyday life. First, will listen to the story “What can you do with a Paleta?” The teacher will then discuss the tradition of Paletas. After the story students will explore and investigate around their house, looking for patterns. Using a sheet of paper divided into eight segments, students will “collect” patterns from around their house modeled on the teacher's example. They will then adapt these patterns, combining and editing them to create 4 individual patterns that they will use to create 4 or more unique popsicle flavors. Once they have created their flavors they will decide on descriptive names for their popsicle flavors.
